Nikola Tesla - Smiljan (Croatia), 1856 - New York, 1943.

American engineer and physicist, Serbian by birth, Tesla designed the first rotating field asynchronous motor, devised polyphased currents principles and the rotary converter, and discovered the coupling by mutual induction of two oscillatory circuits.

With this last invention (the dual-tuned resonant tranformer), his purpose was to transmit energy at great distances by the means of non Hertzian propagation.

Nikola Tesla held several hundred patents, many remained without being exploited by others. They were perhaps too advanced for his time. A museum in Belgrade is dedicated to his memory and reminds us of his leading edge (at that time) inventions.
